Privacy Policy

This policy describes what the Union app actually does. Features marked (coming soon) are not live in this version and collect nothing until they are. We update this policy before any of them ship.

Union is a community app built around unions — interest- and location-based groups you join. It is operated by UnionPeeps(“UnionPeeps”, “we”, “us”): Union is the name of our product; UnionPeeps is the company behind it.

1. Who we are

This policy explains what data we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

2. The short version

  • We use email OTP login (a one-time code), plus Google and Apple sign-in. We never set or store passwords.
  • Union is organized around unions you join. There is no follower system — people connect by being members of the same union.
  • We use your approximate device location to show nearby unions and events. We store only your most recent location, and you can clear it anytime.
  • We never sell your data.

3. Data we collect

Identity & login

Your email address, username, display name, profile photo, bio, and date of birth for age checking. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a unique identifier and basic profile information, such as your name and email, from that provider.

Location

Your device’s latest coordinates when you use the app; precision follows your operating-system setting. We keep only the most recent point, not a movement history. We use it for nearby unions, local activity, and event recommendations.

Interests

Interest tags you choose during onboarding or edit later, which we use to recommend unions, events, and explore content.

Content and union activity

Posts, including text, images, and audio; polls; ephemeral stories; comments; reactions; reshares; event responses; the unions you join; and your role as Owner or Member in each union. We use this information to provide Union’s core features, feeds, permissions, and notifications.

Voice data (coming soon)

Voice rooms are not live in this version. When they launch, real-time audio will be transmitted through our voice provider. Audio will not be recorded or stored by UnionPeeps.

Device, technical, and usage data

Push-notification token, device platform, app version, IP address, crash and error logs, screens viewed, and content you interact with. We use this for push delivery, security, debugging, recommendations, and product improvement.

We do not collect contacts, browsing history outside the app, or biometric data.

4. How we use your data

  • Operate core features: unions, posts, polls, stories, events, comments, reactions, and reshares.
  • Personalize your home feed, nearby content, and explore suggestions using your interests, union membership, and approximate location.
  • Send notifications you have enabled.
  • Keep the community safe: enforce our Community Guidelines, handle reports, and take moderation action.
  • Secure the Service and debug problems.

Where GDPR or India’s DPDP Act applies, we rely on performance of a contract to run your account, legitimate interests for safety, security, and product improvement, and consent for location and notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time using in-app controls.

5. Your choices & controls

  • Location: turn location use on or off, set precision, and clear your stored location in Settings → Location. Turning it off collapses nearby features.
  • Notifications:use granular in-app toggles per category and your operating system’s permission. Essential security alerts, such as a new login or email change, are always sent.
  • Profile visibility: control whether your union memberships, upcoming events, and city appear on your profile, and who can mention you, comment on your posts, see your stories, and invite you to unions. Audiences are union-based: everyone, people who share a union with you, or no one.
  • Discoverability: control whether your account is suggested to others.
  • Blocking: block another person from inside Union. Blocking is mutual, so neither of you can see the other.

6. Who we share data with

We share data only with service providers that help UnionPeeps run Union, under contract, and never to sell it:

  • Railway: application hosting and server-processed data.
  • Neon: the primary database for account, content, and union data.
  • Upstash: sessions, caching, and other ephemeral state.
  • Cloudflare R2: photos, audio, and other media you upload.
  • Google Firebase and Apple: push tokens and notification delivery.
  • Agora (coming soon): real-time voice-room audio when voice rooms launch. UnionPeeps will not record the audio.
  • Resend: email address and one-time code for email OTP delivery.
  • Sentry: technical and diagnostic logs for crash and error monitoring.
  • Google and Apple: account identifiers and basic profile information when you choose their sign-in services.

Some providers may process data outside your country; we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers. We never sell your personal data.

7. Retention & deletion

  • Account deletion: delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account. We begin a 30-day grace period; signing back in during it cancels the deletion. After that we permanently erase your profile, contact details, date of birth, location, interests, links, settings, memberships, stories, and recommendation history, and detach your remaining content from you. Aggregated or anonymized analytics that cannot identify you may be retained.
  • Deactivation: Settings → Account → Deactivate account hides your account without deleting anything. Signing back in restores it.
  • Location: only your most recent coordinate is stored; clear it anytime.
  • Stories: auto-expire 24 hours after posting and are then deleted from storage.
  • Deleted posts, comments, and unions: hidden immediately and purged on a scheduled basis.
  • OTP codes: expire within minutes and are never stored in readable form.

8. Security

  • Data is encrypted in transit using TLS.
  • OTP-only authentication means no passwords are stored.
  • Sessions use short-lived access tokens with refresh-token rotation.
  • Media uploads use time-limited signed URLs.
  • Access to production data is restricted and logged.

No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you and regulators of breaches where required by law.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in the EU, EEA, and UK, India’s DPDP Act 2023, and the CCPA or CPRA in California, you may have the right to:

  • Access or port your data: Download my data is coming soon; until then, contact us.
  • Correct your data: edit your profile in the app.
  • Delete your account and data: Settings → Account → Delete account.
  • Withdraw consent: use the location and notification toggles in Settings.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing and complain to your data-protection authority.

To exercise any right, use the in-app controls or email admin@unionpeeps.com. We do not sell data, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.

10. Children

Union is for users 13 and older, or 16 and older where local law requires. We ask for date of birth at signup to enforce this and do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the minimum age. If you believe a child has created an account, contact admin@unionpeeps.com.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy as Union evolves. Material changes will be announced in the app with a banner and a summary before they take effect.
